I am still a rather new librarian having just finished my degree in 2008 at Pratt Institute in NYC where I had the honor of studying Usability, Media Ecology in an amazingly creative program. My professor had us reading McLuhan and Postman and pulled, challenged and encouraged us to think deeply about technology and to see its use through a people-centered lens. I started my career as a children's librarian, fascinated with the power and possibility that technology affords storytelling. Transmedia storytelling is changing the role the library plays in young people's lives - in families' lives. I've been the Chair of the Children and Technology Committee for the American Library Association's Association for Library Service to Children and Families (ALSC, we give out the Newbery and Caldecott Awards) and now currently serve on their Board. I was named a Mover & Shaker by Library Journal in 2010 for my original new organizational scheme (people-centered) for our picture books collection. Regarding technology, I can drive the car, but I want to make friends with and learn from the people who know how things work under the hood.
